Media Break

Hey everyone,

I have really taken a break from media recently to just enjoy life and the fresh summer air! Cannot even say that I am sorry about that, but I do hope that you all have had your share of sun and happiness 🙂

A few tips to visiting Hong Kong before we shall talk about my exciting trip to the Mothercity.

Hong Kong is very beautiful and modern, constantly buzzing with its 7 million people. I always knew on some level that Hong Kong is pricey but, especially coming from Vietnam, I was quite shocked. The prices are pretty much European and the locals do love their luxury so it is easy to spend a fortune in a few days.

You could say that we were a little unlucky with the weather, the first summer storms soaked us quite nicely and the air was constantly humid. It was even hard to get our towels to dry in the hotel room. The good thing was that a law school friend of mine is from Hong Kong and was around to show us the best ways to avoid the rain and to enjoy some lovely shops and cafes.

Hong Kong really isn’t a walking city. It does have a very efficient public transportation system. There are streetcars and tubes, double deck buses and taxis. On Hong Kong Island most public buildings are connected to each other via covered overpass bridges, whereas on the mainland side and on Lantau Island many places are connected to each other underground. Navigation through the city is simple and all the passes and roadsides are filled with restaurants and shops.

I was surprised to find out that Hong Kong is a popular hiking destination, especially among Japanese tourists. Weather permitting, I will give that a try next time! Most of nature within Hong Kong is actually protected making the city nice and green. To get the best look at the city, you should definitely go up to the Peak on top of the hills. You can also get to the opposite side and have a look at the city from Victoria Harbour. Between these are dozens of luxurious shopping malls to satisfy all your desires and multiple cruise lines that you can hop on to have a look around the popular harbour area. Don’t forget to go greet the Big Buddha on Lantau Island, and maybe you will get lucky enough to see some pandas.

Make sure you taste some dim sum or dumplings during your visit!

Love, Mira
