Hey,
I recently returned from an amazing break from Dhaka: five chicks conquering Singapore. My friend had lived in Singapore before so she worked as a brilliant tour guide. Singapore is also quite walkable but things are surprisingly far apart so we used the MRT and grab a lot.
On our first day we explored the Asian quarter, enjoyed some yummy food and just the city and the ability to walk around. It feels weird to say that I don't have much to write or recommend about Singapore but that's simply because everything is amazing, everything is super accessible, and every place has something new to discover so all you have to do is wander around and keep your eyes open. So pack good shoes, sunblock and be ready.
Of course you must see the giant tree forest and the botanical gardens which are more than worth the hype.
Stay for sunset! We laid on the warm ground with thousands of other people and then Harry Potter theme song came on and the light start their dance to the music. There was also a special exhibition called the Northern lights which was so impressive. Basically they created the effect of northern lights by releasing smoke and shining lights through it but in person it was even better! It can't really be described by an amateur author but must be experienced at least once.
The next day we headed to China town for some further shopping and exploring. Food markets and the food in general are amazing.
We also popped into the famous Raffles Hotel where the cocktail Singapore sling is originally from. The cocktail at the bar is about 50 USD so be prepared but even without drinking it, the bar and the hotel are stunning to explore and definitely take you back in (colonial) time.
Go out and tour the harbour at night, you'll get a lot more amazing light shows and good views and vibes. You also have to go take the iconic photo with the Merlion fountain.
I had an extra leave day so I stayed one day longer than my friends. To prepare for the noise and confinement of Dhaka, I headed to the national botanical garden for the day. It's a beautiful place with lots of paths, places to sit, massive vegetation, cute cafes, and lots of sea turtles. Would recommend!
Of course, the airport itself is something to see just bare in mind that the famous fountain is actually outside the airport and can only be seen if you haven't gone through the security. The signs to point these out are pretty clear and you'll take a walking path after dropping off you bag to explore this mall where the waterpark is.
Overall, would really recommend Singapore! It's also very expensive but you can also find some more affordable street food as well and it's so beautifully unique that it's absolutely worth it.
All the best,
Mira
