Living in Torino

Hello,
I must say that I always seem to neglect the city I live in, maybe it’s because I don’t really feel like I do as many touristic things but in reality, I have explored Torino so much that I should have written about it dozens of times! So here we go with some recent adventures and highlights.
There are two undeniably best places to scout out the sunset; Superga or the Chiesa di Santa Maria del Monte dei Cappuccini (or in other words the Cappuccini). Superga is much farther from the city centre and during the evening it requires a car or a bike (if you like exercise) to reach the top. The Cappuccini is much closer, near Piazza Vittorio Veneto, and easily walkable. Typical Italy, they are both actual cathedrals.

When you drive downhill from Superga this is the sunset image you can catch of the cathedral down the road. Stunning, right?
Another way to enjoy your evening, that is very popular in Italy, is going out for an aperitif. This is usually some wine that comes with snacks. Depending on the place, there might be more food or fancier small bites. After we climbed the Cappuccini we stopped by the main piazza (Vittorio Veneto) for an aperitif.
Even though vegetarian options are not widely advertised, upon request, most places are able to produce meat-free snacks.
If you happen to be craving for a less-Italian dish, like a burger, or a tasty draft beer you must head to Baladin (Open Baladin Torino). This is a delicious burger shack in central Torino that produces their own beers right outside the city. We stopped here for a fulfilling dinner as my best friend was leaving Torino and we were not disappointed at all.
Talking about the outskirts of Torino; close to Almese is an old cathedral (usual Italy) on top of a mountain with a fabulous view over the entire Torino. The cathedral is called Sacra di San Michele. If you approach the sacra from Almese side, you can hike to the top on a forest trail. This will take you about an hour depending on how much you break for. The sacra is 1 000 meters above the sea level and the view awards you beautifully after the climb. Just remember to grab a picnic basket (or a back bag) with you and spend your day on the slopes of the cathedral. There is a water fountain at the top as well as a bar that provides you with ice creams and beverages.
Not too long ago, I celebrated my birthday in Torino. We had a picnic at the Valentino Park on Saturday and headed to the Torino FC Stadium on Sunday to watch Torino get defeated by Napoli. The tickets for Torino games are not expensive and can be bought by the Stadium on the day. The birthday couldn’t have been any better. Well, maybe a victory would have been fun but Torino supporters just seem like the most loyal ones so the after party was lively regardless of the result.
Lastly, Torino is famous for quite a few of its museums: Egyptian museum, cinema museum and the automobile museum. If you are in Torino for longer, and especially if you are under 26, I would recommend buying the annual pass for the museums. This is only 30 euros for a person which makes it much cheaper for you to constantly visit the museums. There are also other options for persons just visiting Torino that can be bought at info booths and tourists help shops.
Even if you are not interested in cars, the automobile museum is worth a visit! It has been awarded as one of the top 50 museums in the world and is very well laid out.
Ciao!
Mira
