Highlights of the Finnish summer 2024

Finland will forever be my favourite place on Earth. While I have thoroughly left my heart in Cape Town, Finland will always be home. I think I experienced the biggest culture shock in my life going home this summer. I stepped off the plane and I thought I had gone deaf - it was just so quiet. I should also say that I had to heavily sedate myself to step into that plane, I googled the plane type and all the security details and I only calmed down once I heard the gentle voice saying in Finnish ''I'll be your pilot today, let's go home''. Thank you Finnair, I was unsure if I was going to make it. Because I booked the flight home based on Metallica's world tour which I had had tickets for for a long time, I only booked one-way because at the time I didn't know how long my leave would be. I was genuinely thinking that if the flight to Finland does not go well, I'll just have to ask someone to ship my stuff from Bangladesh because I was not going to make it back. Luckily, without any bumps, I landed safe and sound into heaven on Earth.
It won't be a Finnish summer without brilliant midsummer celebrations.
In a few words, I could say that the summer was amazing, peaceful and beautiful, best shared with family and friends.
I did a lot of running, walking, cycling, swimming, some driving too (felt shockingly free), ate a lot of cheese and happy things.
I have a house in the countryside where I allowed my soul to find peace, did some gardening and spent time in my sauna.
I also participated in a cross country running race and explored new little towns.
Overall, photos speak a thousand words and Finland is just something to experience. Come visit me one time!
Best wishes,
Mira
