Hello!
And then off to Berlin. I booked a lovely hostel in Charlottenburg and ended up walking at least 20 km on my first day. I thought that the 9 km route from mine towards Grandeburgs gate and the castle would be very beautiful; across a park and so forth. Sadly, the route was not very walker friendly and the winter time has stripped away the beauty of the trees and flowers.

Once I had completed my walk one way I was determined to fully enjoy the site as I was sure not to walk there again. So I wandered around the parks and walked all the way to the museum island. It was one of the first warm days in Berlin and loads of tourists had popped up to enjoy some terrace beers and beverages. If I had a chance to do the route again I would absolutely rent a bike. Berlin is a nice and easy city to cycle around and there Is plenty of space for riders.

I had a lot of time in Berlin so I wasn’t in any rush to see things, I have also been to Berlin before so I had seen some of the most famous sights. I scouted out the sunset from a rooftop bar near the centre; the Monkey Bar. The food was yummy and the view is over the entire city. If you would like to eat on the rooftop a la carte restaurant called Nani, you should book your table in advance.

On my last day, I explored around the Charlottenburg summer palace and the royal gardens. The gardens are free and full of runners and the summer palace has one of the loveliest interior decorations that I have seen in a palace. The style is very different from other majestic royal palaces and definitely worth a visit.

I picked a very gloomy day the visit the Berlin Wall and East Berlin. It kind of suited the situation and I got to explore around without anyone else being there. I also found a cool sports arena nearby where all the people who weren’t afraid of the rain were busy painting graffitis on the walls.

Best wishes,
Mira
